Awards and Distinctions

  • 2003 Toy Council of Canada Award – For best children’s book in Canada of 2003, chosen by readers, for Marigold’s Wings (Key Porter).
  • 2002 International Order of the Daughters of England (IODE) Award, Toronto – For best children’s book by a Toronto resident for A Drop of Gold (Annick Press, 2002).
  • 2001 Storytelling Award from an international publication, Storeytelling World published in Tennessee, USA – Storytelling award for Two Lazy Bears from Bear Tales (Annick Press, 2000)
  • 2001 USA Skipping Stones Award – Awarded by Skipping Stones (a multicultural and ecological magazine) for the most outstanding nature book for young readers for What’s the Difference (Annick Press 2001).
  • 1999 Parent’s Guide to Children’s Media Award, USA – For The Last Straw (Key Porter, 1998).
  • 1997 Applied Arts Magazine Award, Toronto, Canada – For book illustration awarded for Beetle Bedlam (Key Porter, 1997).
  • 1996 National Library of Canada (NLC) Purchase, Ottawa, Canada – Purchase by the Music Department of the NLC of the complete body of original artwork of Rockanimals (Scholastic, 1991).
  • 1991 Performance by North York Symphony of Orchestranimals as a children’s musical using overhead slides of art to visually tell the story
  • 1982 Canada Council Award (Now referred to as the Governor General’s Award) – For best illustration in a children’s book in Canada for ABC/123: The Canadian Alphabet and Counting Book (Hurtig, 1982).
  • 1980 Runner-Up for the Amelia Francis Howard-Gibbon Award – For illustration for Great Canadian Adventure Stories (Hurtig, 1979).
  • 1979 Runner-Up for the Amelia Francis Howard-Gibbon Award – For illustration for Great Canadian Animal Stories (Hurtig, 1978).
  • 1966 Academic Award from the Society of Illustrators
